About the Artwork
Andy Warhol really loved Christmas, and a substantial portion of the artist’s oeuvre explores this seasonal theme. In fact he loved to celebrate and any occasion was important to the artist to reinforce the notions of togetherness and friendship.
“I have Social Disease. I have to go out every night. If I stay home one night I start spreading rumors to my dogs.”
The son of Slovakian immigrants, Warhol was a deeply religious man, a true Catholic. The Christmas theme was therefore seen by the famous Pop Artist not only as the most mundane festivity of the year, but as well a moment of religious celebration. Andy Warhol created for Tiffany & Co Christmas cards from 1956 to 1962.
