About the Artwork

Double Deathshead is part of Screen, a portfolio of eleven prints published in 1997 by The Paragon Press. The Chapman brothers want to shock the viewer exploring the dichotomy of beauty and pain, the sublime and perverse. Their macabre pieces earned them the title "The Brothers Grim". However they also infuse their art with wit and sense of humor that make the viewer conform with his own voyeurism.

"You don’t choose to laugh; a horrible thing inside you says, ‘I’m gonna ignore my morality and I’m gonna laugh’. You laugh at bad things, ridiculous things. "
Jake and Dinos Chapmans

The title Double Deathshead suggests the association of the skull and crossbones with death and danger. However the artwork can be seen as well as an ironic gesture towards the Chapmans’ sibling relationship.
