About the Artwork
This linear rendering of a kissing couple using only few colour is a great example of Picasso involvement with the Surrealist movement. The two figures, depicted in profile, have an explosive force that fills the whole composition.
"The violence of the eroticism, both male and female, to which Picasso gives material expression in his painting, expresses itself in concrete form in the theme of the kiss."
The two figures take the whole space, eliciting the physical and emotional resonance of the embrace. Executed in an edition of 20 with 3 HC in 1979-80 by Marigold Enterprises Ltd, this tapestry explores a theme, embracing lovers and kiss, that occupied Pablo Picasso during his life.
About the Artist
