About the Artwork
Vasconcelos is known for enveloping everyday objects such as pianos, laptops, commercially produced decorative objects in crocheted, knitted, embroidered material. She juxtaposes the mass-produced and the handcrafted thus examining the contemporary values associated with each notion.
“I don’t want to play God or become a divinity but my goal is to give identity to spaces that have lost it.”
Pandora II belongs to the edition series derived from Vasconcelos's personal sketchbooks, which were carefully archived by the artist over a period of twenty years. The drawings from her sketchbook are akin to the catalogued ideas from the diary entires that tell about the process of creation, artwork, and events in Vasconcellos's life.
About the printing Technique
The term "pigment print" is used generally for any type of printed image that uses strictly pigments. Pigments can be either on a mineral basis or they can be an artificial product. The image stability of pigment printing is superior to that of any other method of printing.
