About the Artwork

This tapestry displays Miró´s use of automated drawing and primary colors. Imaginative forms are juxtaposed with symbols of the everyday world, with the typical calligraphic style of the artist.

"If I want to make a drawing I crumple the sheet of paper or I wet it; the flowing water traces a line and this line may suggest what is to come next."

Joan Miró

Miró was one of the first artists to develop automatic drawing as a way to undo previously established techniques in painting. This technique signed the beginning of Surrealism as an art movement.

Weng Contemporary Tapestry

Tapestry is the term that describes a range of textiles, including needlepoint and certain mechanically woven, ribbed fabrics, but historically and technically it designates a figurative weft-faced textile woven by hand on a loom.
