About the Artwork
While Katz is primarily known for his portraiture, nature is the subject that the artist has been painting consistently since the early 1950s. Through nature Katz explores its volumes and colors created by light.
"The water becomes white and grey with black in it. With gestures and with light the difficulty factor makes things more interesting,"
In "Reflection II" Katz studies the qualities of the fleeting natural light. Typical to Katz, his representation is intuitive rather than descriptive. Katz's practice of minimalist representation is evident in his execution of this print, and yet the visual expression masterfully mediates the feeling of the natural phenomena.
